Get ready: Rain, freeze, snow on the way
It’s time to dust off your snow boots and dig out your earmuffs. Old Man Winter is returning with a vengeance.
“Those that kind of tucked away their winter clothes for a while, you will need to grab your coat and gloves,” said Jim Brusda, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Great Falls.
This week’s weather will come in three phases — wind, snow and then frigid temperatures.
“Be prepared for winter-like conditions. It is still winter. Believe it or not, it is still February,” Brusda added.
The worst driving conditions will likely be Wednesday evening when a flash freeze is expected. Temperatures Wednesday morning will be in the mid-40s with a touch of rain and then drop drastically, Brusda said.
“People need to be aware as the temperature falls Wednesday night, do expect some precipitation, which will melt and freeze, causing icy roads,” he said. Not much snow, maybe an inch or two, is expected in the Helena area. But mountainous regions could get 6 to 10 inches, the weather service said.
