A BLACKPOOL girl, born and bred, I have grown up visiting and dancing at the Tower Ballroom.
Taken by my grandparents as a child, I would watch the over-60s waltzing around the dance floor to the sounds of the Wurlitzer, secretly thinking that the four step and foxtrot were dull and outdated.
But, 10 years on, ballroom dancing has captivated the nation.
With millions tuning in to watch the Strictly Come Dancing final, hosted in my home town, ballroom dancing has gone from fusty to fashionable, completely changing my opinion on the hobby I once poked fun at.
I don't know whether it’s the sexy Latin moves, the sequins or the chance to see the likes of Ann Widdecombe in lycra, but over the past couple of years I have found myself routinely tuning in to watch a host of celebrities don a leotard and take to the floor.
And almost as fascinating as the dancing itself are the miraculous transformations of the contestants at the end of the intense training.
