Florida elders saluted
With tap shoes in hand the River House COA Dance Styles classes traveled to Tallahassee Thursday for the Ambassadors for Aging Day. A noon program, during the Legislative Committee Week to celebrate Florida elders, featured state officials and Gov. Rick Scott.
At 11 a.m. the River House Dancers of Dance Styles by Sally Reyes Walton took center stage for a program of tap dancing and singing. The celebration was from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Also traveling to Tallahassee for the day were members of the St. Augustine Easter Festival Royal Family in period dress: Melissa Richardson as Queen Mariana; Marshall Bargar as King Carlos; and Savannah McElroy as Princess Margarita. They portray the ruling family in Spain in 1672, the year construction was begun on Castillo de San Marcos National Monument.
Gifts from the Royal Family for Scott were presented, along with a St. Augustine proclamation from Mayor Joseph Boles.
Walton was mistress of ceremonies for the program.
